Compiling on Linux - Thank You

As very many of you pointed out, I didn't have my kernel source installed
(for Slackware users among you: I installed a kernel from the 'Q' set for
CDROM support, so I foolishly figured it wouldn't make any sense to install
the source for a different kernel, how was I supposed to know :-) ), but now
everything works fine. Thank you very much.
Can someone tell me if there is a mailing list out there for newbie Linux
users, so I don't have to spam moo-cows ?
