You don't know what you're talking about. First, builtin functions, called
by <name>(@args), can NOT be called by (STR)(@args).
Second, builtin functions are DIFFERENT from commands... The command for
flush can ONLY be accessed by using force_input().
I think the force_input() solution was adequite.
