Because it would impose a not insignficant speed hit on the server, and
would require hundreds of changes to the server source code.  (No, there
are not hundreds of places in the code that handle the construction of
large lists and strings -- but there are hundreds of places that call
those functions that would need to be modified to handle potential failure.
