autoppp and who

Folks,

I know this is probably an often seen question.  The documentation
states that it is a pppd issue that when pppd is started by mgetty that
the entry displayed by the "who" command lists "ppp" as the login.
There is mention of patching pppd so that "who" will display the correct
login if the AutoPPP line contains a dash in the second and third
field.  Can anyone tell me how do this?

By the way, if you answer this question for me, you will be answering it

question several times.  When I eventually figure this out, I will
include the solution in the document.
