vm play -s output.rmd   # should play to the speaker (also try -e)
vm record -m input.rmd  # should record (also try -i)

Without option, it should play to the modem. If it doesn't, please supply
me with a log file, especially if vgetty works.

Running, or idle waiting for a call ?  The former is normal (lock file).
The latter denotes a bug in the configuration.
