mgetty-1.1.21 (and below, down to 1.1.17) work without any problem with
pppd-2.2.0. I have two installations running that version.

If pppd works stand alone, there is no reason why it shouldn't work
with mgetty/vgetty, since mgetty/vgetty only detects the frame and then
the control goes to pppd.
