mgetty with external Motorola Modem

I am attempting to set up mgetty for use with an external Motorola "Modem
Surfer-33.6" - so far with no results.  I intend to use it only for data, as
it has only class 1 fax capabilities.

If there is anyone who has been able to get this modem to work with mgetty,
I would appreciate hearing how you did it.  I have no problems using the
modem to call out using minicom, so  I am certain that it is functional.
However, when I try to call into the modem using mgetty, the modem will
answer, but then a connection is never made.  I checked my modem cable, and
all 25 connections (even though not all are used) are good.
