Looks like it connects fine...

... and then switches to a different baud rate, or has problems with error
correction.  Try setting the modem to "force error connection" (exact AT
commands depends on the modem vendor), and make sure that the modem<->host
speed is "locked" to a fixed speed, not adapted according to the 
modem<->modem speed.

As this is pretty regular, I'd suspect error control problems.
