Hi Tim!

It's a feature, not a bug. The signal SIGUSR1 is used to simulate a
ringing phone. Vgetty answers the phone by starting to play the
greeting message, that's correct and that's what SIGUSR1 was designed
for. During the playback and recording, vgetty listens for fax or
data calling tones. As soon as they are detected it switches to the
appropriate mode. To make this quite reliable, you should hangup the
phone as soon as vgetty goes off hook. At least during the time when
the greeting message is played, so that vgetty can detect silence
while recording and switch to fax/data mode then. The only bug is
that you didn't hang up your phone...

> Will it work with the new vgetty version?

Sure. The new version even allows you to set the answer modes for
"true" ringing and "simulated" ringing to different values. You can
set the true ringing to "voice:fax:data" and the simulated to
"fax:data".

Bye,
Marc
