Some modems are really confused by "weird tones on the remote end"
(usually called "voice" :) ). Sometimes it works if you disable BUSY
detection - ATX<something> - but then, it won't detect a real BUSY
either. So that's far from perfect.

Buy a new modem might be the best way, besides the fact that there doesn't
seem to be a really perfect modem on the market right now. ELSA is good
(voice, fax, data), but not perfect for fax yet...

That's really pretty old - one of those modems that lead to all the
"Rockwell sux" ranting in the mgetty docs.

That's a more recent variant, and those aren't *that* bad (they still
suck, but less than the newer 56k variants).
