Some problems with VM?

Okay, I've read the Beginners doc, worked through the repost of the file
conversion problem, etc.  My ROM appears to be current, etc.

At this point, I can only get vm to beep :)  I can't get it to play anything
else.  Here is the output of the diagnostics.   Can someone point me to
what might be wrong?
