I haven't tried building an RPM for mgetty yet, but any changes you make
to the original source tree should be contained in patch files. The
RPM philosophy is to maintain pristine sources (unaltered from the
original tar.gz). Might I recommend the Maximum RPM book, which is
a little outdated, but most of the information is pertinent. It covers
the building of packages and creating/applying patches and such. You=20
can buy it from Red Hat, or you can download the PS (or LaTeX) version
of the book (my preference) from www.rpm.org. BTW, I use vgetty so my
needs may not be the same as yours. Sometime I might get around to
grabbing the latest version and rolling an RPM out of it.
Gert (and Marc), who is typically responsible for building the "official"
RPMs? Is that left to the distribution vendors?
