MT2834ZDX(v) update

Some of you here may remember that I'm one of those owners of a MultiTech
modem, specifically a MT2834ZDXv. I also have a MT2834ZDX at work. Both
these modems are BABT versions since I'm in the UK.
Some time ago, I said that I was going to talk to Multitech to sort out
some problems. I thought I'd give you an update.
I'm currently tackling them about the data mode on both, specifically random
disconnects/hang ups.
My DATA mode problems come down to the following:
- Whenever the modem connects to another modem which has the capability
of running faster than 28.8kbps, it seems to drop the line for various
reasons, some of them claim to be DTR dropping.
I'd be interested to hear other people's DATA mode experiances. I'm not
currently interested in FAX or voice; that'll come later. Below is a list
of suggested fixes for this problem; if you're experiancing similar
problems, please let me know, and if you could try these fixes (work
your way down the list, adding one at a time to your initialisation
string) that'd be great.
Here are a few of the suggested fixes:
AT%E0 - disable '+++' escape
AT#F0 - disable fall forward/back
AT$R1 - disable disconnection after 12 retransmits
AT$MB28800 - prevent modem connecting over 28.8kbps
AT&D0 - prevent DTR from resetting the modem.
Howver, my modem seems to have become very inventive with it's reasoning,
now claiming LOST CARRIER. NOTE! when you reach the bottom of the list,
the only thing that'll cause the modem to disconnect is either you turning
the modem off, or the other end disconnecting! I wouldn't recommend trying
these while you're not around to keep an eye on the modem (unless you like
paying your telco lots of money).
Anyway, Multitech UK spent 40 minutes or so with a modem connected to my ZDXv
(they dialed me), and the only thing that did happen was that the modem
speed dropped to 26.4kbps (which in itself is interesting, since it had
fall forward/back disabled!)
I should have some more information on Monday. Watch this space.
