Hrm. (no CND delivery until too late)

Hrm. I was at a friend's house, and he has this fancy caller id box.
When the machine recognizes a number, it announces the call using my
friend's recorded message. So on his mom's number, the box says "Mom
is calling".
I thought "Hey, I've got caller-id, a modem, vgetty, and an audio
board with speakers, why can't I do that?"
I've been trying to figure out how to do that with [mv]getty, but
haven't found a way yet.. The cnd-program isn't called until the
modem is ready to answer the phone. That's too late. I want to get
the data as soon as it's ready
The only thing I can see to do is log at a high level, and parse the
log file. Yuck. It would be *so* much better if cnd-program were
called just as soon as the data was ready. Then it would be a piece
of cake.
