  Same here.  I've wanted to do exactly the same thing.

    Yes, and that's exactly what I do.  I use caller-id to determine
  whether or not to ring the phone in my bedroom via X10 using an X10
  computer controller and a special module, but that's another story.
  Given it's rather time-critical, I read the caller-id from the mgetty
  logfile.  For other non-time sensitive things, such as logging the
  caller-id info to a logfile, I use cnd-program.  Not an ideal
  combination, but it's working well for now.

  Gert's been saying that the 1.1.20 release of mgetty will do this.  I've
  been eagerly awaiting its release.
