Voice Functions suitable for originating ??

I too am interested in this, since I want to be able to use a pager,
alpha-pager, or cell-phone/land-line to contact people when certain
events occur, such as notifying sysadms of system trouble, or
voicemail users that they have vmail, and email users that certain
"high priority" email has arrived.  I am also desiring to look into
using the voice synthesizer software to deliver caller-id information
and date and time via telephone, and even perhaps reading of email.

I just ftp-ed mgetty 1.01 of late January, but I have only installed
the data/fax stuff so far, and am not finished testing it yet.  The
next step is to get vgetty up on my Zyxel Omni28.2, then I will work
on the fancy stuff!  If anyone knows of work like this that I could
leverage, I would like to hear about it.  I have already ftp-ed the
pager calling software, but I have not installed it yet.
