So there's the other side, I don't agree... :-) Never had problems with
hanging pppd's, they always go away. I have the option `modem'
specified, even though it should be default, who knows?
Looking in the man page for -detach gives:
              Don't fork to become a background  process  (other-
              wise  pppd will do so if a serial device other than
              its controlling terminal is specified).
The behaviour is definitely right if you specify it, but this hints to
something with specifying devices, doesn't it?
