I can confirm that the rockwell does not hang up when using 4-bit encoding.
I'm not at my computer right now, so I can't test its performance when using
2 or 3 bit compression. The problem I have is exactly as described: The modem
only hangs up when the watchdog timer expires. It says there's an interrupted
system call when it does (I'd include the logs, but I don't have them). I
posted earlier about this, but got no responses. Here's my system info:

Pentium, 32megs ram, Linux kernel 2.0.28, RedHat distribution
Rockwell modem made by Radicom International (works fine under windows)

The init-strings I use and the init-strings I could dig up from the windows
software are in my previous post. So if you want to see those strings, they
should be in the archive.

Hope this helps,
Rob
