 MEW>  ----> o SupraExpress 336i Sp (ASVD)    <--------

This modem can't do fax except class 1... no class 2 or 2.0 Perhaps
getting fax commands is confusing your modem:

> 02/15 21:55:16 yS2  mdm_send: 'AT+FCLASS=2' -> ERROR

This time it worked

Sending all those fax things seemed to turn the voice part off. I know
this won't help get the modem to answer in data mode :-) but it is still
a problem.

I don't know how far apart your rings are... mine are about 10 seconds
though so I expect the first one was at about 22:23:20...

This would be about 45 sec. later... what most modems default to before
they give up. The modem you are calling in with may need to be more
patient :-) both your modem and your terminal program should probably
wait longer before hanging up. (90 to 120 sec)
