Well, the log file is sparse (higher "-x <n>" values give more data) but
shows enough info - the modem doesn't react to "AT" then.

Exactly. Have you tried 115200? There are a number of modems out there
that cannot do 57500, but can do 115200 fine.

(It's also possible that Solaris can *NOT* do higher baud rates than 38400
even if Sun claims so, I have received another report that 57600 does not
work before...!)
