2 vgetty questions

Hi.
I'm new to vgetty (and mgetty for that matter), but it seems to be a really
neat package. (Thanks to all working on it...)
I compiled mgetty and vgetty versions 1.1.2. No problems compiling.
But I have 2 setup issues I can't resolve.
1) vgetty (I'm only working w/ the voice part now) answers the phone, plays
the message correctly, but when the caller hangs up, it does not detect that
the call has ended and keeps recording. I've tried changing rec_silence_len
and rec_silence_threshold in voice.conf to no avail. I'm using a USR 33.6
internal voice modem. What do I need to do so it recognizes the hang up to
stop recording?
2) I've been using pppd prior to having vgetty running. Before, no problems.
Now ppp hangs up after about 10 seconds of connection. I read that this is a
problem with vgetty and ppp using different lock files, but how can I correct
the problem? If anyone has this working, I'd appreciate any help /
suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
