[LONG] mgetty + bind problem

Hi,

excuse my poor english, but my german is worse :-)

I don't think my first problem comes from mgetty but maybe someone on this
list could help me:

1st problem:
------------
I've got a local network with a Linux (Debian 2.0) server.
This server can connect to the Internet and act as a gateway for the local
network using pppd + masquerading on a Olitec SpeedVoice 56K modem. This
works like a charm.
The Linux server acts as a nameserver for the local network, and
forwarders are defined to the ISP's name servers in order for DNS to work
all the time (whenever the server is connected to the Internet or not).

I've setup dialin connections using mgetty on the SAME modem and it
doesn't work while named is running. In fact it seems some program (mgetty
? pppd ? other ?) is trying to resolve the 0.0.0.0 address (received from
the remote peer during the negociation) and a LCP timeout occurs because
the local nameserver can't answer to this query so it passes it along to
the forwarders which are currently not available (the same modem is used
for incoming and outgoing connections).

If I stop named before the call the incoming connection work like a charm.
then I can restart named and all works fine. In fact I've automatised
this, so it works fine now but it's very ugly IMHO.

Could someone point me to where my problem comes from ? (I suspect a bad
DNS configuration).

2nd problem:
------------
Using the same modem as above (seems to be a CLASS 2) it's impossible to
receive or send faxes with sendfax (not tried more complex things). When
receiving a timeout occurs. I've set the flag to switch the baud rate to
19200 but it still doesn't work. When sending I've got a +FHNG: 50 error
I've read the FAQ and I've replaced pbmtog3 with pbm2g3 and g3topbm with
g32pbm but the problem is still there.

Maybe the problem is the initialization string but the modem's
documentation doesn't give any AT command (YES !!!) and I've got no answer
from the Olitec tech support. The modem AT commands doesn't seem to be
present on their web site :-(

Has someone ever succeeded in configuring this sort of modem to send or
receive faxes ?

thanks in advance.
