Modem connects.

But with no error control.  The [91][11] characters are the v42 startup
sequence from the caller side.

Make sure that your modem uses V42 error control.  Check your modem manual to
find out what command to use for that.

This is just line noise, ending in a <ctrl-d> character, which is the
"logoff" character.  Should go away immediately when the modem is doing
error control.
