Problem receiving ECM-Faxes with Zyxel U-1496E

Hi!

Since now I had only very few trouble using my two old Zyxel-modems to
send and receive fax messages with mgetty (mgetty-fax_1.1.12-1 from
debian). 

Only receiving faxes in ECM-mode doesn't work as it should: Using my
Zyxel with ROM 6.14 always results in the following error (without a
page been received):

	The fax receive was *not* fully successful
	The Modem returned +FHNG: 73
                   (T.30 T2 timeout, expected page not received)

When my other Zyxel with ROM version 6.13 does the job, the fax is
received completely but the bit order is just the other way round than
normal. That makes it very hard to process the fax, since the new_fax
script doesn't now when to use the -M option in fax2tiff and when not.

Is it just that I have to update my Zyxel EPROMs? When yes, what is a
stable version being able to receive ECM correctly? Or is there another
"trick" to avoid the problem (perhaps by deactivating ECM)?

P.S.: For testing purposes I can recommend calling the (at least for
D2-customers) free phone number 0172-1414. A voice system will answer
the call and it is quite easy to order a fax which will be sent some
seconds later to Your fax number.
