AutoPPP errorf

That's no "error" message.  That's a message telling you that pppd was
started, and that you're now supposed to look into the PPP log to find out
why it didn't work.

Sure.  Check the PPP log.

PPP logs to syslog, facility "daemon" if I remember correctly (man pppd).
Specify "debug" on the command line.

Then enter something like this:

daemon.notice					/var/log/daemon.log

in /etc/syslog.conf, create the file, and send a "SIGHUP" signal to the
syslogd (man syslogd).
