My Solaris 2 experience is that mgetty works fine on /dev/cua/[ab]
(builtin ports) and /dev/cua/[01] (Magma 2S+P ports). There was a
version of Magma's driver with a bug in the handling of O_NDELAY and
TIOCSSOFTCAR that caused mgetty to hang, but I assume that has been
resolved by now. I somewhat lost track after switching to ISDN.
Make sure you disable port-monitoring on the ports that mgetty is
handling. See pmadm(1M) and sacadm(1M).
