cannot get TIO

Hi,
I am sure this has been addressed before but I have searched just about
everywhere I can think of trying to figure out what I would need to do to
get rid of the cannot get TIO error I receive from time to time. Apparently
it doesn't seem to hurt anything because it just reports it and the next
time it seems to work just fine but I thought I would ask. I run Slackware
3.4 with kernel 2.0.33 and have an 8 port Cyclades board in which I have 8
modems attached to it to provide ppp access to the Internet, as you can tell
I am using the newest release of mgetty, the modems I have are just standard
modems, 4 generic (no name) 28.8 and 4 InfoTel 14.4's. Any feedback would be
greatly appreciated and once again sorry if this had been addressed in the
past.

Here is a sample from my logfile.

odd that a 28.8 only connects at 26.4 each time but I have never seen any
modem connect any higher on this campus.

TIA
