vgetty with eventual ringthru to handset?

I'd like to setup an arbitrary voice-menu/-mail/fax system with the option
of ringing through to the handset.  Or, at least transfering to handset;
I can call announce with a sound card somewhere.  Is this possible?  Some
kind of clean transition, without the odd volume problems when two phones
pick up?

Also, I have a new USR 56K voice/fax (the one with speakerphone).
Presumeably (as list traffic indicates), I'm going to have trouble with
this modem, correct?  What modem would give me the least headaches?
