postscript to g3

I'm looking for a way to convert a postscript document to g3 fax format.
This sounds to me like a FAQ but believe me, I skimmed
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/usenet/news.answers/fax-faq/mgetty+sendfax+vgetty.gz
to no avail.

Ghostscript has the tiffg3 DEVICE but how can I tell ghostscript to produce
a g3 format rather than tiff.  I don't understand why this is named
tiffg3 anyway.
