S2=255 and the 3 plus signs

	Hi people.

	Well.. somebody please explain me these:

	init-chat "" \d\d\d[the 3 plus signs]\d\d\dAT&FS2=255

	It comes in mgetty.cfg.in (mgetty distribution)

	Why escape with the the 3 plus signs if then the escape
	character is set to 255... ???? so the next time that the
	init-chat acts, the escape sequence is not going to work??

	Maybe it's silly to ask.. but i don't get it! :)
