Since my machine has not crashed during incoming phone calls
in a while, I am getting more comfortable with assuming that
my machine was crashing during incoming calls because of
some interaction between the modem and Caller ID (and whatever
else hard/software wise).

The crash consisted of either
1. instantaneous reboot
2. complete (keyboard, net, etc...) freeze

Note that my modem is a SupraExpress 336iSp INTERNAL.

I *removed* "#CID=1" from the initialization and now
it seems to be ok (knock, knock).
