Hi,
some time ago I wrote a small webfrontend for sending faxes via web
(shortmessages).
Then I thought about a possibility to have the other way: to view faxes at
home via web from everywhere.
In the meantime I got 3 programs (shell-scripts and C-programs) from other
users that tried to solve this problem.
Gert and Me, we think they are better than nothing, but far away from
being really good. On the other hand we have tho problem which of them
should be in the mgetty-package :) all three solutions would be a little
bit too much - only one web-solution makes sense.
I'm sure, there are other poeple around here, who are working on this
problem too.
I WILL HAVE A FRONTEND FOR mgetty+sendfax BASED ON WWW-TECHNOLOGY.
I'LL DO THE COORDINATION AND SOME PROGRAMMING STUFF.
If nobody likes, I'll do it my own too, but I know there are some people
interested in this project too and so: let's do the work together.
And now the problem:
--------------------
This frontend should have possible solution
Authentification of the several possibilities, ssl&Co
user and secure Who has experiences with this problem?
data-transmission (I'll
be the first who reads
my faxes!)
Usable Interface to view simple cgi-bin should solve this problem
how many faxes are there
(layout like faxman)
Never transmit large transmit the g3-code to the client
gif-files via WWW - I and then build a picture (bitmap)
don't like to wait centuries of this. I think this should be
for my fax! bien possible with java or javaScript?
Complete functionalities like: could work through cgi-bin, perhaps
viewing faxes in several java is necessary... we'll see.
sizes, deleting them,
forwarding them...
(like faxman)
I don't want:
------------
a specific solution for a specific Web-Server. Thinks like
server-side HTML and other server-dependant stuff should be left out! The
Frontend should run on every modern Web-Server. That means: cgi-bin is ok,
ssl or something like this - I don't know (see question above). Java is
ok, because nearly every system knows java in the meantime BUT: I'll have
an alternative solution for nonjava! (bigger pictures...). JavaScript - I
don't know if it is usable - any comments?
a pure java-interface. I'm looking for a web-interface, that uses
web-Technology, that uses only as much html as possible! (A java-Interface
should be a different project)
In the future:
-------------
there should be a multi-user-version, that means:
something like Email and users on a machine. several users should have
something like their faxbox and they can manage it via Web. I think this
needs some changes in mgetty...
if possible: perhaps soundintegration for vgetty ... :)
Communication about this subject:
---------------------------------
Gert says I should use the mgetty mailing list for this - so let's use it.
When and where to start?
------------------------
I think it would be the best to become a small overview about what tools
are existing. So I'll collect all suggestions and notes like: I have
written one... Till 1st of june and than we will see what is there, what
needs to be done and:
WHO WANTS TO JOIN THE PARTY (sorry: project ;) )?
ok, have a nice evening... and tell me if you are interested in doing
something, if you have suggestions or if you have a solution that could be
helpful.
