Status of fax delivery

Is there any way to find out the status of a fax as it is being
delivered. I would like to monitor fax delivery and return messages
like Dialing, Connected, Sending Page, Delivered, etc. from a shell
script. Is this possible? With Hylafax a program called "faxwatch"
will monitor a fax job and return this type of information. Is there
anything similar with mgetty+sendfax?
