Can't be - if login complains, mgetty is not calling pppd but login
directly. Most likely, login.config has wrong permissions or whatever.

Don't do that - just post a log file entry (showing the last 20 lines
of an incoming call, "mgetty -x6", 20 lines before the "####" line).

Use the mgetty log file (that's what the docs suggest for error hunting,
btw).
