There has to be someone using an external voice/fax modem in North America???

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has responded since my last
email - I have quite a bit if excellent advice on modems that are a little
more affordable/available, at least here in Canada. There has not been one
email with a voice/fax/data solution, yet a subset has at least been met.

Of course no modem seems to be as good as the ZyXel 1496/2864 - trust me I
would love to get one of these modems however I just don't have the time
to look for a used one (however I am a garage sale/flea market aficionado
so I will do my best this summer!), I need to get a voice mail application
NOW - thus the requirement for a locally available, and affordable
solution.

Actually the situation is still pretty gloomy, it appears that there are
just not that many good modems that are capable in the voice/fax/data. As
far as I can see from the FAQ, and emails - it so far is only the ZyXel
1496/2864. This is of course is not due to the wonderful work done by the
xgetty maintainers/contributors, rather the modem manufactures (for the
lack of quality amongst other factors).

Personally I think a $200US is rather expensive 56k voice/fax/data, that
is very close to the $300US for a new 1496. I am looking to spend $120US
(ie ~$180CAN), at most. However if Multitech 5600DXV turns out to be
another 1496/2864 then it may well be worth it.
