It doesn't.  See below.

It takes nearly a full minute to hang up - the "CND:" line is written
after the ATA[0d][0a] is received, and the "found action string" line
is written the moment the ":" of "+FHNG:" is seen - this is a bit
confusing, but that's what you get if you log the caracters as they
come in.

As to why it doesn't work - sounds like a generic case of "what kind
of call is that?  No idea, try fax.  Hmm.  Wrong.  So what, give up".

Does it work for data/fax calls from within mgetty?  If that doesn't
work either, there isn't anything you can do - there are quite a number
of modem that work fine for data and fax, but not for data/fax
autodetect.

(If it does work in mgetty, things will get interesting).
