Looks pretty much the way it should be: "gimme 14400".
You could try "fax-max-speed 9600" in mgetty.config - maybe your modem
doesn't like 14400, and subsequently messes up completely. Unlikely, but
trying it wouldn't harm...

This is very slow indeed (so it's not just the modem reporting slow
speeds, it is also using them). 3 minutes for 60 kbyte is slllowww.
