vgetty does not switch to data (but mgetty does!)

That didn't do it. The new firmware doesn't change anything, except now I
sometimes only get 33.6kbps connects with my provider :(

I did test fax reception, though: Works flawlessly with vgetty and mgetty.
Data connection only works with mgetty. Now what?
