Well, to get the called-ID in the cnd-script and/or new_fax, you
need the vgetty patch ...  at least at this time.

No if it's an external modem like the ZyXEL 2864I. If it's an ISDN
card, I am not sure it will work at all (any ISDN + mgetty expert
out here ?  Does it pass the FM and TO numbers ?)

no, both are available (caller and called ID).

Yes. Here it's around 500 CHF which is 350 US$, so something must be
wrong.

Anyway, what modem or ISDN card do you have or do you intend to buy ?
