Hmmm.  I use 6.12 M everywhere (because that's what "worked" at the time
I connected those modems)... looks it time to upgrade.  Thanks for
testing this.

The "30" setting includes "sync" codes in regular intervals, so that after 
a byte overrun on the serial link the ADPCM coder has a chance to get 
back into sync - otherwise, it will only be noise if even one byte is lost.

I have an Eprom burner myself, but thanks for the offer (I bought the 
burner just to be able to do regular upgrading of my herd of 1496's :) ).
