Hi all,

/bin/login does not get the tty device from mgetty via
/var/run/utmp,

Using mgetty -1.1.14 distributed with redhat 5.2 Linux and WIN95 DUN 1.3 PAP
Dialup ppp on PC is working. The PC dials into my other linux box fine.

The dial-up terminal login fails, after entering username, it never prompts
for password.
ps fax | grep login shows:
11607 ? S 0:00 login itsap. Login terminates after some minutes.
                ^
                | my other redhat pc has S1 in here for TTYS1, but it is
MISSING from here.
( I think /bin/login does not know where to send the
password request.)

AutoPPP dial-in also fails also at the PAP LOGIN call.
Logging shows
pppd 2.3.5 started by /AutoPPP/, uid 0

ps fax | grep pppd shows:
2817 S1 S 0.00 pppd auth -chap +pap login debug
The pppd process stays running for a long time and Win95 dialup times out.

The binary RPM supplied by redhat exhibits the same problem.

Tests have shown that the login program is reading the /var/run/utmp file.
The _PATH_UTMP is gotten from /usr/include/path.h for the make of mgetty.

I've run out of ideas, any help will be greatly appreciated.
