Login Problem - mgetty and Redhat Linux 5.2 --- Fixed

Thanks all. I did finally act on the excellent debug that is output by
mgetty. The log had a line in it on every call that went something like
this: "DSR Line low and should not be - faulty cable".
This was not fatal to mgetty, but login did not like it! As decribed at
http://www.cqs.ch/~jww/doc/mgetty/login-hang.html If the DCD line is low,
then /bin/login will attempt to open the port the gain exclusive use for
password entry. Well, login does this when the DSR line is low too. Simply
replacing the modem cable as instructed by the dedug resulted in flawless
operation.
