Oh, please READ THE DOCUMENTATION.

"tiffg3" is not "g3", and the documentation clearly states that this is 
the wrong input file format.

Please read the mgetty documentation (http://alpha.greenie.net/mgetty),
especially the part about document conversion - and then use the "faxg3"
or the "dfaxhigh" driver, but NOT tiff.
