3com/USR Sportsters are NOT recommended AT ALL. Their fax part is very
unreliable -- there are some models and series that work well, but most
of them are horrible.

3com/USR Couriers are perfect, but do not have voice.

(BTW: I think it's a shame to call those wonderful modems "3com couriers".
What does 3com know about modems? "US Robotics" is a name with a long
tradition in building great modems, and it's a real shame that 3com
decided to drop that name after buying USR).

If you don't need voice capabilities, I'd recommend an USR Courier. If
you need voice (answering machine, etc.), I don't really know what to
recommend. Maybe an ELSA, but I do not know about CallerID.

If you can get an used ZyXEL 1496, that would be a very good choice. Data
mode is slow, but voice/fax/CallerID is just perfect.
