Yes, sure. That's how it should work.

You can also send a *. That will abort the greeting message and drop

Of course not!!! This is the beep, that comes from the modem!!! It
has nothing to do with the dtmfs you send to the modem.

Well, you need some directories and some files. Have a look at the
script itself, which files it uses.

Look at this... isn't it strange? The modem accepts the first +VTS
command, but not the second one. And it accepts both commands from
within a terminal program. I don't understand this. Sorry.
