Don't.  Go to at least 1.1.10, better 1.1.14, if you use it in combination
with GNU Libc (which is part of RedHat 5.0).

No idea, sorry.  I though the idea is that it "just happens" - the moment
the modem is initialized, it will simulate an incoming call and then sends
the fax.  But I've never tried it (my machine runs 24h anyway).
