vgetty on USR

Hi,
I've recently tried the latest and greatest mgetty 1.1.14 release. I
was somewhat surprised to see that the Rockwell Voice code in vgetty
allows only 7200 samples/sec for recording messages/playing
announcements. Now, the previous version I used (1.1.5) allowed one to
specify the sampling speed in the configuration file. The entry in the
file is still there, but vgetty insists on using 7200. What is the
rationale behind this ? My modem (MegaHertz XJ 401, which is a USR but
has a Rockwell chip... yes really... don't send me mail that USR's
don't have Rockwell chips) apparently supports the following commands
(from the manual and tested with a terminal program):
#VBS=2 2 bits per sample
#VBS=4 4 bits per sample
#VBS=8 8 bits per sample
#VSR=7200 Sets 7200 Hz sample rate
#VSR=11025 Sets 11025 Hz sample rate
So using 11025 (and even more bits per sample ought to be
possible). I'm asking for this feature because the voice quality with
the default settings is quite poor.
So, is this going to be changed anytime soon ? Or do I have to modify
vgetty to produce a version that accomplishes this for my modem ?
On an unrelated note, what are these commands for:
#VRA=0 Disable ringback goes away timer
#VRA=n Duration of ringback goes away timer in n * .01 seconds
#VRN=0 Disable ringback never came timer
#VRN=n Duration of ringback never came timer in n * .01 seconds
What is this ringback feature and do I ever want to use it ?
#VTM=0 Disable timing mark placement
#VTM=10 Enable timing mark placement at one second intervals
And what is the timing mark placement for (just out of curiosity) ?
As always,
Thanks for any comments/replys/flames...
Rudy
