ZyXEL Elite 2864ID problems sending fax from voice mode

Hi all!

I have a problem sending a fax with the shell command SENDFAX when I was
previously in voice-mode. I noticed in the logfile that vgetty tries to
send ATD to the modem (to start resynchronisation, I suppose), but the
modem answers ERROR.

Is this because ATD without a number is disabled in the german version
of this modem? (Taken from the manual) If so, is there any other command
to accomplish the same? Why doesn't ATO1 work for this task?
