Windows Fax client for mgetty problems

I now have the Linux side working, now I need help with the NT client:
I have the port manager set with Fax Server Host: 192.168.1.1, fax
device name: fax, port 515.  when I hit "Test", i get "Error: No open
port found - Try again." trying again does not help.  If I telnet to
192.168.1.1, port 515, I get "lpd: : Malformed from address", and the
connection drops.  I have the NT machines ip address in both
/etc/hosts.equiv and /etc/hosts.lpd.

I think more diagnostic options would help with the setup.
