vgetty and ZyXEL 1496? [EPROM upgrade]

I took out the EPROMs from 4 U1496EGs and 1 U1496EG+ (ripping of all
the labels) and burnt the 6.20/6.20+ images found at this ftp address.

Result: All 4 U1496EGs seem to work fine with release 6.20, *but* the
U1496EG+ seems dead -- all LEDs go off shortly after power-on.

Is it possible that I made a mistake and the EPROM _hardware_ in the
Plus models is different (of course I know that the software has to be
different), e.g. faster Chips than for the non-Plus model?  (The chips
very probably got mixed up during burning, so the Plus model now has
EPROMs in it that had been in a non-Plus model, but I really didn't
think that this should cause a problem.)
